Aston Martin Lagonda: The History of the Model

A four-door sedan Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide was put in production in 1961.

That was the time when the company tried producing rather standard cars as to meet the demand. This model was rather an expensive one and it was available custom-made only and there were 55 cars produced during 3 production years.

Aston Martin V8 Lagonda prototype was produced in 1969. This modification could have either 2 or 4 doors. This car was made for David Brown to use and its saloon was luxury.

Aston Martin Lagonda (Series 1) that became the symbol of the 80ies was designed in 1974. This automobile was presented during «Earls Court Motorshow». That very model turned out to have been the best Lagonda modification ever. The customers saw Aston Martin Lagonda (Series 2) on the 12 of October, 1976.

This futuristic automobile designed by Williams Town was provided with the newest technologies such as glittering electronic buttons or electric seat adjustment.

The car wasn't in production till 1978 as it was necessary to make the electronics work. There were only 16 cars produced during 2 production years.

In 1983 Motorfair and Tickford companies sponsored Tickford Lagonda cars' production. That model stood out for stylish body and large front air scoop. There were only 5 of them sold. Some time later, that is, in 1984, an extended variant of this car was produced: it was called Lagonda Limousine by Tickford.

Separate rear windows with electrically controlled front section told this car from the predecessors. There were only four of these cars produced: three with left-hand steering wheel and one with right-hand steering.

Aston Martin Lagonda (Series 3) was introduced in January, 1985. New injector engine and swiveling headlamps differed the model from the preceding one. There were 75 of these models produced all in all.

Lagonda V8 Shooting Brake by Roos Engineering was produced in Switzerland in 1987. It was based on Lagonda (Series 3) so as to show the creative potential of the local automobile industry.

Aston Martin Lagonda (Series 4) was also produced in 1987. That is what differed this model from the preceding modification: smooth lines and 6 fixed headlamps, what is more, the new model didn't have any projections on the body just as the body itself became smoother. There were 645 automobiles produced during the model's 12-year production life.

There were two new model's versions produced since the beginning of 1994. They are a four-door sedan and a five-door Shooting Brake (both cars were produced by Factory Service Department). The modification was a special order.
